
Mike Judge’s and Greg Daniel’s beloved animated series, King of the Hill, returns this August after a 16-year hiatus. While the show was always based in Arlen, Texas, meant to be a fictional composite of North Texas suburbs, its reboot will bring another level of realism that will land a little closer to home to with Dallasites as Bobby, now 21 years old, is an aspiring Dallas chef in the series.
Created by Greg Daniels and Mike Judge, the mind behind Beavis and Butt-Head, Silicon Valley, and Office Space, King of the Hill ran from 1997 to 2009 across over 250 episodes. The show celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017 at SketchFest in San Francisco, where the two creators had the idea to revive the series. Later on, they would have the idea of updating the characters ages in present day, which opened the floodgates of ideas for the season.
In the new season of King of the Hill, Hank and Peggy return to Arlen, after a venture at an Aramco base in Saudi Arabia, retired, finding the community to have changed since their absence. Bobby is now 21 years old, working as an accomplished chef at a German sushi fusion restaurant in Dallas called Robata Chane.
The show will see a returning cast of voice actors, with Mike Judge voicing Hank Hill and Boomhauer, Kathy Najimy as Peggy Hill, Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill, Stephen Root as Bill Dauterive, and Lauren Tom at Minh and Connie. Before his passing, Johnny Hardwich recorded lines as Dale Gribble for six episodes. Toby Huss will voice the character for the remaining episodes.
For Dale’s character, Season 14 finds him in the aftermath of a failed stint as the town’s mayor.
The reboot is also introducing a new cast, including the character, Kahn, voiced by stand-up comedian, Ronny Chieng.
The reboot will mark the 14 season of King of the Hill. Debuting on August 4th, the season will comprise of 10 episodes all available on Hulu. According to reports, King of the Hill has already been greenlit for a 15th season.
