Some shops are made for a quick stop. Josey Records is the kind of place where you might want to clear your afternoon.
The independent record store’s Farmers Branch flagship spans approximately 25,000 square feet, making it the largest independent record store in Texas and one of the biggest in the country. Inside, rows of new releases and secondhand finds sit alongside 45s, CDs, cassettes and turntables—giving music lovers plenty of reasons to keep digging.
Whether you’re hunting for a particular pressing or simply hoping to stumble across your next favorite album, this is a Dallas-area destination where browsing is part of the attraction.
A vinyl destination that keeps growing
Josey Records opened in October 2014 with a roughly 15,000-square-foot store in Farmers Branch. Founded by Waric Cameron, Luke Sardello and JT Donaldson, the business brought together deep musical knowledge and experience rooted in the local record-store scene.
An expansion added substantially more room for records, merchandise and events, turning the flagship into the approximately 25,000-square-foot destination it is today. According to the Dallas Observer, it is Texas’s largest independent record store—and potentially a contender for the national title.
The original shop has also helped grow Josey into a wider business, with additional locations beyond Farmers Branch. But the flagship remains the place to experience the sheer scale that made its name.

From new releases to dollar-bin discoveries
The appeal isn’t just the size. Josey’s selection brings together new and used vinyl, seven-inch singles, CDs and cassettes, alongside equipment and accessories such as turntables, speakers and slipmats. You’ll also find music merchandise, from T-shirts to stickers.
For collectors on a budget, there’s another reason to take your time. The Dallas Observer named Josey its “Best Record Store for Your Budget” in 2025, highlighting bins of records priced at a dollar or two. Stock changes, of course, but the bargain-hunting possibilities are part of the draw.
That makes a visit just as inviting for someone starting a collection as it is for a seasoned collector looking for something specific.
A piece of Dallas record-store history lives here, too
Josey’s story also connects to Bill’s Records, the legendary Dallas shop run by Bill Wisener.
After Wisener died in January 2020, Josey’s owners acquired the contents of his Lamar Street store and its online business. Both Cameron and Sardello had worked at Bill’s, making the acquisition a personal connection as well as a business decision.
At the time, Cameron described the opportunity to carry on Bill’s legacy as something the owners felt “humbled and grateful” to do. Josey also announced plans to display Bill’s Records’ sign inside the Farmers Branch store.
It gives the flagship a significance beyond its floor space: Josey is part of a continuing local tradition of independent music retail, discovery and collecting.

You can bring your own collection, too
Josey doesn’t just sell records. It also buys vinyl and CDs, with the Dallas location accepting DVDs as well.
Whether you arrive with a want list, a box of old albums or no plan at all, there’s plenty to explore inside this sprawling North Texas music destination.
