Little over 10 years after it first opened, Klyde Warren Park in Downtown Dallas has been voted one of the best city parks in the entire country in the USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards 2023.
Seeking to highlight “the best of the best” across a range of categories, USA Today’s 10 best awards are decided by editors and a panel of experts narrowing down a final set of the most deserving nominees to be presented to the public. These are then voted on by readers.
After votes were counted and parks finally positioned today, Klyde Warren Park was ranked the fifth-best city park in the United States and praised for being both unique and dynamic.
The 5.2-acre public park opened in 2012 connecting Dallas’ vibrant Uptown neighborhood with its award-winning Arts District and downtown business center.
Building it above a recessed eight-lane freeway was no small task and took years of planning and construction but since opening, “it has become the city’s beloved town square, welcoming more than one million visitors each year and earning national acclaim,” reads the Klyde Warren Park website.
It is also now home to the stunning Nancy Best Fountain which opened late last year. Made up of three 15-foot-stainless-steel treelike sculptures that can shoot water up to 100 feet into the air, it is the world’s tallest interactive water fountain and features a 5,000-square-foot splash pad that can accommodate hundreds of people at a time.
Choreographed 30-45-minute shows where water dances to music and lights now take place twice a day throughout the year.
Bruce Park in Greenwich, Connecticut, Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville, South Carolina all finished above Klyde Warren Park while Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri took first place.
