Trains, trains, and trains. Dallas simply can’t get enough. Whether it’s the maybe-one-day-in-like-ten-years bullet train to Houston or the high-speed train to Fort Worth, the throwback railway in Grapevine, or the vintage train bar: it’s clear that the city has trains on the brains.
In the late local locomotive news, a private Philadelphia-based company by the name of Lunatrain is launching a new nocturnal railway network in the US and Canada, including a stop in Dallas. As such, the new train service offers an alternative to flying and driving with comfortable and more affordable, long-distance trips.
Per its name, the company focuses exclusively on long-distance overnight trips, where passengers can sleep off the travel time. Each train will be equipped with beds, showers, as well as onboard amenities including fresh-cooked meals, beverages from coffee to cognac in the lounge cars, as well as in-room dining options.
To achieve its aim of passenger comfort, Lunatrain solely features private cabins – be it for individuals, couples, or families with flexible options available. Cabins are secured with a contactless keycard and equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, built-in sound absorption tech, and numerous power outlets to charge passenger devices.
One of the key draws of Lunatrain is offering competitive pricing with flights and existing railways. The latter, Lunatrain contend are too expensive, unreliable, and dated.
Lunatrain’s planned network across the United States and Canada include New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Nashville, Minneapolis, Denver, Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Boston, Washington D.C., Montreal, and Toronto. The Lunatrain network also features a direct trip from Dallas to Chicago.
At this point, there is no timeframe for the completion of Lunatrain’s North American railway network. The company is presently still in its design and launching phases, with a planned demonstration until scheduled in late 2026 to conduct usability testing.
