The royal family stepped in to help an organization in need during the recent winter storm.
Amidst the horrible winter storm that Texas has faced this past week, the state has seen many prominent figures stand up to help each other. The latest to do so is none other than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. [Featured image: @Daniel LEAL-OLIVAS / AFP]
Since opening in 1984, the Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support has helped over 1,200 women and children out of abusive households. During the winter storm, the shelter was forced to shut its doors for the first time since its inception after suffering extensive damage at their transitional housing unit, Annie’s House.
However, repairs are on their way all thanks to the royal family’s Archewell Foundation:
“Today the news of our damages reached Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!” the shelter wrote in a Twitter post. “Through their nonprofit, they are supporting us by replacing the roof at our transitional housing facility & helping us meet our immediate needs. THANK YOU, ARCHEWELL FOUNDATION!”

Archewell Foundation has pledged to replace. the rooftop as well as repair other damages to the shelter. Thanks in part to this generous donation, the shelter has been able to reopen.
“Today, we were notified that through the actions of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nonprofit, Archewell Foundation, Prince Harry and Meghan will make a donation to help us get back on our feet,” said CEO of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support, Jan Langbein. “Not only will this gift provide for our critical needs, it shines an international spotlight on violence against women and children, letting survivors know that they are not alone.”
