So maybe your dreams of becoming a space-bound cosmonaut have long since been squandered, maybe there was just a bit too much math involved. There is, however, an alternative position that has recently come available within the cosmic community a new position with less math and more mezcal. Presently, you can now apply to be the resident Spaceport Mixologist at Elon Musk’s SpaceX base in Brownsville, Texas.
“SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not,” the job listing states. “Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.”
The company description is followed by an outline of the job details, which include preparing drinks of which include hand-crafted cocktails, providing “courteous and informative customer service” while keeping a clean and stocked work station, and following restaurant guidelines.
Of course, the sought-after Laika libation artist does require ample experience. In addition to 2-plus years of experience in mixology in a bar or restaurant, the position also prefers restaurant, high volume, and daily changing menu experience, as well as that in a resort environment and pairing drinks with a themed menu.
The role also requires the mixologist to be capable of working in a standing position for 4 or more hours, working all shifts available for overtime and weekends, and working with hands continuously.
