Just in time for peak summer, Brooklyn ice cream institution, Uncle Louie G’s, has opened up shop in Dallas with time-tested Italian Ice and nostalgic ice cream flavors.
From the era of stickball and opened fire hydrants during the summertime, Uncle Louie G’s traces back to 1950s when its founder began dabbling in ice cream and Italian ices to survive New York summers. What began with servicing homemade Italian ice on a stoop has since, decades later, evolved into a franchise spanning 45 locations across 8 states according to their website.

The neighborhood-turned-nationwide creamery specializes in Italian Ice and ice cream. Though somewhat similar to shaved ice, Italian Ice possesses a smoother, creamier quality and – at Uncle Louie G’s – made with real fruit. Italian Ice options here are endless, spanning the spectrum with the likes of bubble gum, pina colada, rainbow, cannoli, creamsicle, peach, and so much more.
The venue is also known for its nostalgic ice cream flavors (with 14% butterfat) running the gamut of apple pie, Brooklyn cheesecake, rum raisin, among others. Sugar-free options are also available as are non-dairy vegan.
PSA: sampling is encouraged.
Uncle Louie G’s also serves a variety of classic sundaes, ice cream cakes, and ice cream drinks including milkshake options, ice cream floats, blended iced coffee, a frozen hot chocolate, and Old Fashioned Egg Cream.

The Brooklyn-based parlor was introduced to Dallas by a three-year resident and franchise owner, Zabi P:
“We previously lived in Savannah, Georgia, and would go get Italian ice,” Zabi told Culture Map. “When we moved to Dallas, the Texas heat got to us, and we went looking for something sweet, light, and refreshing. But there were no Italian ice places here.”
Uncle Louie G’s is now open in Dallas at 7522 Campbell Rd. #115. The ice cream parlor is open from noon to 10 pm daily.
