It’s officially that time of year when the Texas landscape trades its winter browns for that iconic, breathtaking shade of blue. If you’re looking for the ultimate wildflower pilgrimage, look no further than Ennis, Texas—the official “Bluebonnet City of Texas.”
Just a short 40-minute drive south of Dallas, Ennis transforms into a floral wonderland every spring. Whether you’re a professional photographer or just looking for the perfect family photo op, here is your guide to the 2026 season.

The Famous Driving Trails (April 1–30)
The main event is the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails, which run for the entire month of April. Sponsored by the Ennis Garden Club, these mapped routes cover over 40 miles of picturesque country roads. Expect to see rolling hills, grazing longhorns, and white fences framed by millions of bluebonnets.
As the oldest bluebonnet trails in the state, the event regularly draws tens of thousands over the course of the month to see the wildflowers bloom. The Ennis Garden Club scouts the trails weekly and reports back on the best areas to see the blooms.
Before you head out, check the Ennis Y’all app or stop by the Ennis Welcome Center (201 NW Main) to find out which specific route is hitting “peak bloom” during your visit. Peak typically occurs during the second or third week of April. Visiting these trails is completely free.
The Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival (April 17–19)
While the flowers are out all month, the town really throws down for the three-day festival in the heart of historic downtown Ennis. This year, the festival takes place from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19, 2026 in celebration of its 74th anniversary.
As part of the festival, Ennis will host live music at a main stage with performances lined up all weekend long. A vendor market will also be available, featuring over 60 arts, crafts, and artisan vendors as well as food and drink options.
A crowd favorite of The Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival is the wine wander, where participants can get an access pass and sample Texas wines from local boutiques.
