This early July, Canton will continue the massive market tradition of First Monday Trade Days. Hosted weekends leading into the first Monday of the month, the 150-year-old monthly market is known as the world’s largest flea market – regularly featuring hundreds of vendors spread out across 450 acres.
History of First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas
First Monday Trade Days dates back to the 1850s. Back then, vendors and shoppers gathered at the dedicated grounds off the courthouse square to trade and purchase goods.
By the 1960s, First Monday had become too big for the town square, leading to the City of Canton purchasing six acres just north of the courthouse. Furthermore, the previously one-day tradition morphed into a sprawling four-day market.

Notably, the monthly flea market is held on weekends Thursdays through Sundays; as an ode to its longstanding tradition, however, the flea market retains its name “First Monday Trade Days”.
First Monday Trade Days take place at 800 First Monday Lane, Canton, TX 75103. The next event is scheduled from July 2 – July 5, 2026.

As the fourth largest annual event in Texas, First Monday Trade Days regularly draws over 620,000 visitors per year. Spanning 450 acres and 700,000 square feet of covered shopping, the First Monday market features over 5,000 vendors selling antiques, crafts, home decor, collectibles, and more.
If you’re hoping to avoid big crowds, officials recommend visiting on Thursdays.

While First Monday is a major destination for bargain hunters and artisan items, the event is also a huge draw for foodies. With several designated food areas across the grounds, the festival features food courts, food trucks, concessions stands, and restaurants offering a smorgasbord of options including of fair-style eats, Tex-Mex to BBQ, sweets, and everything in between.
Important to note, many food vendors don’t accept cards so be sure to bring cash. The market does have on-site ATMs.

Admission to First Monday Trade Days is completely free. Parking prices vary based on location. Visitors can find free parking at Canton Marketplace. Otherwise, parking fees range in the $5 – $10. Visitors can enjoy minimal traffic and easy access at West Gate, Exit 526 .
