“Frida Kahlo: Five Works offers a rare chance to explore a selection of works by acclaimed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo,” the museum writes on its website. “Since her death in 1954, Kahlo’s deeply emotional and vibrant paintings have garnered ever-increasing attention, transforming the celebrated artist into a global cultural phenomenon.”
The exhibit features four of the artist’s paintings, as well as a unique sketch. Through this small, yet mesmerizing, selection viewers can gleam the vivid and surrealistic aspects in context of the artist’s life and oeuvre.
“This installation features four paintings and a drawing on loan from a private collection, each acting as a vehicle for understanding larger aspects of Kahlo’s artistic practice. This includes her unique visual language, her exploration of still life painting late in her career, and her reflection on the events of her adventurous life.”
The four paintings on display include:
- Still Life (I Belong to Samuel Fastlitch)
- Still Life with Parrot and Fruit
- Sun and Life
- Diego and Frida 1929 – 1944
View of New York (Dedicated to Dolores del Río) – a drawing depicting NY’s landscape as seen from the Barbizon Plaza Hotel where Frida and Diego Rivera stayed in their time in the city, will also be on display.
Frida Kahlo: Five Works will be exhibited at the Dallas of Museum of Art from February 28 – June 20. Admission is free to the public. A virtual tour will also be available through the museums’s website.
