The large-scale experimental art venue known as Meow Wolf has branched branched out to Texas with its first location in none other than our very own Grapevine.
Based in Santa Fe, Meow World is known for its impossibly fantastic immersive experiences that offer visitors “a journey through a technicolor wonderland that blends storytelling, technology, and immersive art” across 30+ rooms of multidimensional art and compelling narrative.
Now the company, which was last year named in USA Today’s Top 10 Best Immersive Art Experiences, is now open to the public.
Travelers can venture into the unknown at the first Texas portal in Grapevine Mills mall for the incoming exhibition known as “The Real Unreal“.
Bringing together 150 artists and fabricators, including 38 from Texas, 70 unique and captivating experiences have been created by muralists, sculptors, photographers, undermallers and video game designers for the immense artistic collaboration and captivating narrative.
According to the official release The Real Unreal’s story, which has been conceived by author LaShawn Wanak, features “a missing boy, a chosen family, and Hapulusgarrulus Lophoaquaflori.”
“It all begins with a blended family who has unknowingly unlocked portals to a different existence,” reads the release. “As participants investigate these portals to the unknown, they will explore rooms that are both unfamiliar yet accessible through unforgettable psychedelic art.”
Senior Vice President and Executive Creative Director Dale Sheehan, meanwhile, describes it as “a cosmic odyssey where surprises await around every corner, and each discovery sparks its own story.”
With another Meow Wolf location set to open in Houston next year, the new Texas locations will represent the company’s 4th and 5th outposts. Presently, Meow Wolf has portals in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and Denver.
The Grapevine shopping center portal reportedly aims to capture the nostalgia of our “first moments of freedom” and channel “the energy of a shopping center”.
“We’ve never designed two exhibitions in the same state at the same time. The Texas experiences will be deeply rooted in artist collaboration and connected by concealed Easter eggs” said Sheehan.
“Opening a permanent exhibition in the largest and one of the most diverse states in the country has been on Meow Wolf’s radar for years, and we are excited to be formally underway. The opportunities this state has presented have already become the touchstones of a vibrant, arts-centric portal of imaginative creativity.”
There will also be a cafe, a retail store, and a venue for live events all situated within the new Meow Wolf Grapevine location.
Tickets are now out and can be found here.
The new Texas Meow Wolf portal is located at 3000 Grapevine Mills Pkwy, Grapevine, and open 7 days a week from 10 am every day.
