Just in time for North Texas to welcome the crisper, cooler breezes of fall, Frisco is unveiling a massive new outdoor destination. Northwest Community Park, a highly anticipated 120-acre green space, will officially open its doors to the public this Saturday, September 19. Located just north of Panther Creek Parkway at 13770 Teel Parkway, the sprawling park promises to be a premier regional hub for cyclists, nature lovers, and families alike.
The ambitious project is the latest crown jewel from Play Frisco, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. Already responsible for managing more than 50 parks and 70 miles of trails across the city, Play Frisco designed this new space with its core mission in mind: helping residents “find well-being through play”.

A Refuge for a Disappearing Ecosystem
At the heart of Northwest Community Park is a deep commitment to Texas nature. The 120-acre site is centered around a beautifully restored Blackland Prairie ecosystem. Once abundant in Texas, this distinct habitat is rapidly disappearing, and the park serves as both a critical wildlife refuge and an immersive educational experience.
Visitors walking the grounds will find educational exhibits detailing the ecological importance of the prairie, allowing guests to learn about the environment while they explore it. As Frisco city officials noted, “This new park is a precious community asset for Frisco and a destination for the wider region. Acres of restored and enhanced Blackland Prairie are a refuge for wildlife and an immersive retreat for visitors.”
To take full advantage of the landscape, the park also features a scenic prairie overlook where guests can take in sweeping views of the restored natural habitat.
A $40 Million Paradise for Cyclists
While the park offers miles of multi-use trails perfect for running, hiking, and casual walking, it is also making waves in the cycling community. Northwest Community Park is being billed in part as a $40 million biking destination and the city’s first cycling-focused park.
Riders of all skill levels will find a state-of-the-art, dedicated bike skills area outfitted with dirt jumps, ramps, and dynamic rolling features. Whether you ride a BMX bike, a mountain bike, or a scooter, the custom-built tracks are designed to offer an adrenaline-pumping experience right in the middle of the city.
The 16-Foot Bison and Family-Friendly Amenities
Play Frisco didn’t hold back when designing the park’s recreational areas, installing multiple themed play zones throughout the expansive site. The undisputed star of the show is the Bison Playground. This area is anchored by a colossal, 16.5-foot multi-level bison structure.
More than just a striking visual, the centerpiece is entirely interactive—kids can climb through the body of the bison and slide down the built-in chutes integrated into its frame.
Beyond the trails and playgrounds, Northwest Community Park is packed with amenities designed for all-day community use. The grounds include a dedicated 2.9-acre dog park for four-legged visitors, a splash pad to cool off during the warmer Texas months, and spacious pavilions and picnic areas perfect for family gatherings.
