Taking to the skies from Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, September 20, the Plano Balloon Festival is the signature event of the “Balloon Capital of Texas.” Celebrating its 47th year, this four-day extravaganza will feature a vibrant weekend dedicated to the magic of flight, brilliant colors, and live music.
While the breathtaking sight of over 30 vibrant hot air balloons taking to the skies is the main attraction, the excitement extends far beyond the balloons themselves. The festival grounds are packed with a fantastic array of entertainment, offering something for everyone to enjoy.

Guests can marvel at thrilling parachute exhibitions, take a spin on classic carnival rides, and listen to live music performances throughout the weekend. Between all the action, attendees can browse unique goods from artisan vendors, grab delicious bites from local food trucks, and cap off their evening with a dazzling fireworks display.
The festivities begin on the evening of Thursday, September 17th, at Plano’s Oak Point Park and Red Tail Pavilion. Opening night sets the tone with an exciting parachute exhibition, leading right into the crowd-favorite Balloon Glow. As the sun sets, pilots ignite their burners, turning the massive hot air balloons into brilliant, glowing lanterns that light up the night sky. This spectacular visual experience is a festival highlight and takes place at 7:30 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Guests can opt to hop into a balloon basket and float above the grounds with the festival’s tethered rides. Note that tethered ride tickets are available exclusively on-site. Beyond the flight line, the FOX4 Main Stage will host live music every day, featuring an impressive lineup of performers including the Plano Symphony Orchestra Big Band, Midtown 10, the Plano Community Band, and the Ice House Band.

Beyond the main events, the festival keeps the excitement going with spectacular nightly fireworks (except for Sunday). When you work up an appetite, explore a massive lineup of food trucks serving up all your favorite festival foods.
