It’s very unlikely you’ve not heard of Chicago’s famed fast-casual restaurant Portillo’s. After opening in 1963 as a small hot dog stand, Portillo’s has since flourished into a Midwestern treasure of national recognition.
Locals and tourists alike now flock to locations around the Windy City to taste the all-beef Vienna hot dogs that have helped shoot the Chicago-style hot dog to fame.
If you’re a fan, or you’re eager to see what all the fuss is about, you’re in luck as Portillo’s has just opened its first Texas location.
Located in The Colony, the iconic Italian beef sandwiches and hot dogs are now obtainable just 30 minutes north of Dallas!
The restaurant threw a grand opening on January 18th at 4560 Destination Dr with a ribbon cutting to welcome the Midwestern staple to the DFW area.
Portillo’s expansion from Chicago to the Dallas suburbs was announced last year across Portillo’s social media pages with a post reading “Howdy, partners! We are bun-believably excited to announce that Portillo’s is heading over to The Colony, TX!
“Franks to the many requests from our fans, this will be our first location in the Lone Star State. Texans will soon see why our unrivaled Chicago-style street food is such a big dill.”
Though it was scheduled to open in The Colony’s Grandscape complex late last year, construction delays pushed the restaurant’s debut back to the first month of 2023.
Since the company’s humble beginnings in 1963, Portillo’s has expanded to Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota in the Midwest, as well as Florida, Arizona, and California.
According to an official release, the first outpost in the Lone Star State, which is nearly 8,000 square feet and was built entirely from the ground up, will feature a “classic garage-style themed interior, but with a local twist, including a vintage Toyota vehicle and a mural that pays homage to our new home in Texas.”
Portillo’s is located at 4560 Destination Drive in The Colony. More information can be found here.
