A potent storm system is pushing eastward across Texas into the DFW area. Forecasters expect for the severe weather to begin tonight around 10 pm, with the most intense weather expected between midnight and 6 am Monday.
While there are some discrepancies regarding specifics, the consensus is a high likelihood of: damaging winds up to 70 mph, quarter-sized hail, localized flooding – especially in low-lying areas – and possible isolated tornadoes. As far as the likeliness, Fox 4 has declared a Level 4 moderate risk.
Meteorologists expect for the severe weather to affect Northern Texas areas including Sherman, Wichita Falls, Childress, and the DFW area. Denton and Collin are also expected to experience stormy conditions including flash flooding, hail, and severe wind.
This system is part of a larger, active pattern that’s been triggering severe weather across the Southern Plains for days.
The most severe weather is expected to taper off gradually by late Monday morning, with lingering rain and gusty winds through the early afternoon. Throughout next week, the city is likely to experience a mixture of less severe thunderstorms, isolated showers, and humidity.
As far as what you should do, avoid traveling late tonight if your can as there will be poor conditions on the road. You should also secure outdoor items that include trampolines, patio furniture, and other things that might be vulnerable to high winds. Be sure to also charge your phones so you can stay tuned for more updates.
