Another cat café has opened in the east of Dallas offering the perfect work break for any feline fanatics wanting to kick back with a cup of coffee and mingle with some furry friends.
Set up by Lake Highlands residents Rob and Caroline Stovall, Whiskers and Soda is both a casual café and a place for potential parents looking to adopt.
Operating in partnership with animal rescue and adoption agency A Voice for All Paws (AVAP), where Caroline is president, Whiskers and Soda ensures the cats are fully vetted and in the most relaxed environment to hang out with humans.
While its purpose is to provide “a safe and loving environment for cats and kittens while they search for their furever homes”, Whiskers and Soda is also a comfortable cafe dedicated to promoting local businesses and sustainability.
With food and coffee from two beloved Dallas institutions Cultivar Coffee and Leila Bakery and Cafe, as well as honey from a nearby aviary, the exciting new cat café is a sleek, sustainable place to hang out in its own right with the added bonus of adorable attention-seeking cats strolling around.
The coffee bar offers everything from regular to specialty coffees with whimsical names like “Meowchiato” and “Amerigato”.
There are also sandwiches, bakery goods, and other snacks including both vegan and gluten-free options catering to anybody feeling peckish.
If you’re feeling sorry for your pawed pals as they channel their puppy dog eyes there are even cat treats on offer to keep them at bay!
For their own safety kittens have their own room out of harm’s way where guests can enter calmly. The bigger cats that are free to roam the cafe also have their own private area they can retreat to at any time if they need to.
A set of house rules at Whiskers and Soda also prioritizes the cat’s well-being. Leaving shoes at the door, letting the cats come to you, and turning off the flash when taking pictures are a few of these established to ensure that the permanent residents don’t feel overwhelmed.
A membership option offers members benefits such as lower rates and the opportunity of making reservations up to a month in advance, though walk-in rates are also available for those who aren’t looking to become members.
Whiskers and Soda is now open at 10320 Garland Road Tuesday through Sunday. More information can be found at whiskersandsoda.com.
