For decades, Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre has been a bucket-list destination for music fans across the country. Now, Texas could finally get an answer of its own. Just a quick road trip down I-35 for Dallas locals, a massive new music destination dubbed White Rocks is in the works.
Located near Bee Cave, just south of Austin, the White Rocks amphitheater would be the centerpiece of a sprawling 71-acre development known as the UMusic Hotel & Private Residences Austin. The proposal is a major collaboration between White Rocks (acting as property owner and developer) and UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle (operating the hotel), in partnership with Universal Music Group.
White Rocks Amphitheater
Designed to harmonize with the local landscape, the 10,000-seat, open-air amphitheater will overlook a 10,000-acre Texas Hill Country preserve. The venue’s design prioritizes a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, utilizing natural materials, clean architectural lines, and underground mechanical systems to preserve both environmental integrity and top-tier acoustics.
UMusic Hotel & Private Residences Austin
Beyond the amphitheater, the development serves as a comprehensive entertainment hub. It appears to be an evolution of the previously proposed “Violet Crown” concept, which was reimagined following environmental and permitting pushback. Presently, the venue, hotel, and residences stands as a proposal that will require numerous key approvals before moving forward.
The property will feature a 150-room hotel equipped with a variety of luxury and entertainment amenities, including a central anchor bar, indoor performance venue, professional recording studios, nightclub, comedy club, expansive wellness center, and dining options.
UMusic Private Residences
For those looking to make the venue a permanent getaway, the project also marks the debut of UMusic’s first-ever collection of 600 Private Residences. Condominiums are currently available for purchase, offering residents direct access to the site’s entertainment options, along with exclusive perks like private pools, fitness facilities, and secure underground parking.
Project Timeline
Pending approvals – construction on the White Rocks development in Austin would begin in 2027. According to sources, the initial phase—which includes the open-air amphitheater, the hotel, and the first wave of residential units—is projected to debut by late 2028 or 2029. The complete build-out of the massive entertainment and residential destination is expected to reach its final form by 2030.
