Opened in 1980, Dino’s Subs in Arlington is an old-school, family-owned restaurant in Arlington known for its quality subs. Recently, all-things-food publication, Chowhound named Dino’s Subs as the best hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop in Texas.
Established in 1997, Chowhound is an American digital platform that serves as a hub for food nerds. Evidently, the site is a huge fan of Dallas. Lately, Chowhound has highlighted multiple Dallas concepts, naming Apothecary and Carmine’s Pizzeria as the best bar and hole-in-the-wall pizzeria in Texas, respectively.
Continuing its DFW love affair, Chowhound has named Dino’s Subs as the best hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop in Texas.
Dino’s Subs is located at 2221 S Collins St. in Arlington. The no-frills, New York-style deli is outfitted in checkered tablecloths, wood furniture, and casual countertops.
Menu-wise, the restaurant serves a wide array of cold and hot subs, as well as a short menu of salads, “pastabilities”, and desserts; the latter includes baklava and New York-style Cheesecake in plain, turtle, or strawberry cream flavors.
Among its 26 sub options, favorites include:
- The Big D: cold sub served with peppered beef, baked ham, bologna, salami, cappocollo, and pepperoni
- The Dino: Dino-dressed cold sub served with baked ham, peppered beef, salami, and extra provolone
- Blackjack: hot sub served with peppered beef, baked ham, mushrooms, cream cheese, and provolone
- Pizza Sub: hot sub served with pepperoni, provolone, mozzarella, and tomato sauce
Pro-tip: order “The Works”, a free add-on mixture of onion, vinegar, oil, parmesan, tomato, lettuce, oregano, and salt.
Dino’s has been a fixture in the area for just over 45 years now. Founded by Lawrence “Dino” in 1980, the old-school shop is a generational affair. Dino applied culinary expertise gleamed from his grandfather’s restaurant, Dino’s Bar & Grille founded in 1918 Newark, New Jersey. Since Dino passed in 2014, his daughter, Jade, has continued the restaurant’s legacy by using the same recipes and old-school standards.
Famously, the sub shop does not deliver. Patrons can either dine-in or order to-go. Dino’s Subs is located at 2221 S Collins St, Arlington, TX 76010. The restaurant is open from 10 am – 9 pm every day of the week save Sunday, where it’s open from 11 am – 9 pm.
