We can all agree that Dallas is a great place, but according to TIME Magazine, it’s one of the world’s greatest places – specifically, Hôtel Swexan. The Harwood District-based luxury boutique hotel was featured in TIME’s 2025 edition of “The World’s Greatest Places”, highlighting the venue’s Swiss sophistication, intricate design, and on-site concepts.
The hotel is a project from the family-owned Harwood International, real estate firm and operated by Harwood Hospitality Group, the team behind some of the city’s hottest concepts including Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar, Happiest Hour, and Dolce Riviera.
Hôtel Swexan, a portmanteau of “Swiss” and “Texan”, opened in summer 2023 at 2575 McKinnon St in Harwood District. The luxury, boutique hotel towers 20 stories high.
Designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, known for projects such as the nearby Rolex building, Hôtel Swexan offers a European-inspired immersive experience with a healthy dose of Texas flair.
In addition to 134 guest rooms and suites, the hotel boasts an array of on-site concepts and amenities. Housed inside Hôtel Swexan, visitors can find the two-story Babou’s library – named after Salvador Dalí’s pet ocelot – that opens to Babou’s cocktail lounge; Isabelle’s Parisian-style tea enclave and martini bar; Stillwell’s signature steakhouse; and twin rooftop attractions Pomelo and Leonie, the latter the hotel hails as its crowning jewel.
Furthermore, the hotel boasts a 75-foot, Moroccan-inspired rooftop pool that offers breathtaking, 360-degree views of the Dallas skyline.
TIME also highlighted the hotel’s 24 unique bathrooms, commending the venue’s delightfully playful whimsy: “Each restroom, like Hôtel Swexan itself, reigns as a work of art”.
Here’s another quote from TIME:
“The hotel’s ethos embodies a bold fusion of sophistication (Swiss) and bluster (Texan)—plus a welcome dose of whimsy. Kuma’s minimalist exterior belies the heart-quickening maximalism found inside, where every nook and corner offers a surprise (think astounding art pieces, rich fabrics, repurposed vintage fireplaces, retro chandeliers, and gleaming marble)”.
For aspiring staycationers, or those visiting Dallas, room rates vary at the hotel based on size, but start in the region of $391 per night, according to Kayak; however, many of the hotel’s amenities are open to the public, including: Stillwell’s Steakhouse and Bar, Isabelle’s, and Babou’s.
Leonie’s is open to the public during Afternoon Tea and and on weekends with ticket purchase. Pomelo, the rooftop pool, and fitness center are exclusive to guests and social members.
Before visiting at a non-guest, be sure to check with the hotel to ensure its facilities are open to the public as policies are subject to change.
