The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is certainly living up to its promise of this year’s concerts featuring “an eclectic and dynamic mix of musical genres” with “fresh perspectives” and “some of the most important voices in new music today.”
On Saturday, the masterful melodies of famed Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be fused with music from one of the best-selling rap artists of all time for the exciting Tchaikovsky X Drake concert at the Meyerson Symphony Center.
Drake, aka Aubrey Drake Graham, who recently broke records when he became the first artist in history to surpass 75 billion streams on Spotify, will not be in attendance but a total of 15 of his songs will be interwoven with music by the legendary Romantic-period composer.
“Tchaikovsky X Drake is a symphonic synthesis that blends the music of two composer-romanticists separated by almost a century” reads the Dallas Symphony Orchestra website. “Fifteen songs of Drake are woven into Tchaikovsky’s epic Fifth Symphony in every way imaginable.”
Steve Hackman is the conductor and creator of the show which will raise money for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Young Musicians Program with 100% of the proceeds benefiting education programs in Southern Dallas.
“These are both actually very romantic, very sentimental, very hard on the sleeve composers that are very forthright with those emotions,” said Hackman. “I thought it’d be interesting to kind of juxtapose them and explore that commonality.”
Tickets include concert seating, one complimentary specialty cocktail, access to the pre-concert Cocktail Reception, and access to a special after-party event.
