A series of tornados ravaged counties in North Texas over the weekend. The storms destroyed over 200 homes, injured hundreds, resulted in widespread outages, and sadly caused numerous fatalities. In the wake of the storms, as officials are still assessing the damage, numerous facilities have opened up to help victims in North Texas.
American Red Cross Disaster Relief
American Red Cross is presently providing temporary sheltering, mental health assistance, financial assistance, and health services to those affected by the North Texas storms. The American Red Cross has set up a shelter at the First Baptist Church located at 503 N Lee Street in Valley View.
The Red Cross is also presently taking monetary donations that help fund their community services.
Cooke County Storm Relief Fund
Officials in Cooke County have created a Storm Relief Fund through the First United Bank in Gainesville. Contact the bank at 940-665-3484 and ask for the Storm Relief Fund where you can make monetary donations.
City of Valley View
Those wishing to donate supplies can do so at the community center at 101 Lee Street beginning at 8 am this Memorial Day. The community center is presently in need of non-perishable foods, water, Gatorade, personal hygiene products, large black trash bags, and diapers.
Salvation Army
Having provided over 600 meals, 550 beverages, 350 snacks, and 30 emotional/spiritual care services, the Salvation Army will continue its relief efforts Monday, May 27.
This Memorial Day, the Salvation Army will have a Sherman mobile kitchen set up in Valley View as well as a Fort Worth mobile kitchen located in the Sanger/Ray Roberts Lake/Celina area. Otherwise, people can make donations online here.
United Way of Denton County
The United Way of Denton County is presently accepting donations via its website. All donations will go toward supporting victims of the May 25th tornado.
