One of the nation’s top summer bucket-list destinations is right here in Dallas.
With the unruly heat rolling in, it’s high-time to map out your summer escapes. If a European excursion is out of the picture, don’t fret. One of the nation’s top summer destinations is in city limits.
Global house-sitting platform, TrustedHousesitters, recently published a ranking of the top summer bucket-list destinations in the country. Weighing U.S. Google search volumes, Google trends, and Yelp ratings, the platform determined that White Rock Lake is third top bucket-list destination in the U.S.

Located 5 miles northeast of Downtown Dallas, White Rock Lake is affectionately known as the “crown jewel” of the Dallas park system. The sprawling 1,1015-acre lake and park sees around one million visitors year round. For outdoor enthusiasts, White Rock Lake features a wide range of aquatic activities – kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding – as well as a 9.33 hiking and biking trail along the shore.
White Rock Lake is also a designated Bird Conservation Area, where visitors can remark vibrant avian wildlife. Notably, the lake and park is the home of Nick and Nora, a pair of bald eagles who recently hatched a pair of babies. For the best nature watching, visitors are encouraged to the southwest corner of the park, home to 50 acres of dense woods.
The platform reports how White Rock Lake was the subject of 60,500 Google searches in the past year, alone, marking a 123% increase compared to last year.

For those wanderlust, the report’s top 5 bucket-list destinations in the U.S. are listed below:
- Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, California
- Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
- White Rock Lake, Texas
- Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida
