As beloved as Blue Bell Ice Cream is in Texas, it doesn’t seem like it doesn’t get the same love outside of the state. In a recent survey conducted by one, Mashed.com, the website scorched the Brenham-based brand, calling Blue Bell the least desirable store-bought ice cream. The nerve.
Mashed.com is a website that touts itself as “the ultimate destination for all things food”. The website recently put together a list of the 9 least desirable supermarket ice cream brands. Their findings, evidently, that Blue Bell was the worst.
“In a Mashed survey of 618 people living in the U.S., 19.74% of participants cited this brand as their least favorite grocery store ice cream option,” the article states.
As for what’s behind the participants’ ire for the ice cream, the article can’t quite say. It quotes acknowledges the company’s unique flavors, affordability, as well as its impressive annual sales stats; to quote: “it consistently ranks among the top-selling ice creams available in stores”. As far as the article is concerned, the only possible reasoning it can assume for the Mashed survey participants collective dislike is the 2015 scandal.
To add insult to injury, the popular dietary coffee book, Eat This Not That, has recently named Blue Bell on their list of ice cream brands with the lowest quality of ingredients.
“The company’s Homemade Vanilla flavor features HFCS, cellulose gum, and vegetable gums. Other flavors add in modified food starch, artificial colors, mono and diglycerides, and more,” the article states.
According to the article, the lowest quality store bought ice cream is that of the similarly named Blue Bunny.
For those fans of Blue Bell who pay no mind to this type of slander, the company has recently debuted the new Oatmeal Cream Pie ice cream flavor that should now available in your local supermarket.
