The fantasy world created by JRR Tolkien in the mid-20th century continues to enchant the masses to this day earning the Lord of the Rings trilogy a position among the best-selling book series of all time having sold over 150 million books around the world.
Many travel far and wide to visit places that inspired Tolkien’s world or were used as film locations in the critically-acclaimed movies. While the real Hobbiton™ movie set in New Zealand couldn’t physically be much further away from the United States, what if we told you that you could experience the life of a Hobbit in a suburb north of Dallas?
If you want to embrace the Hobbit lifestyle to its fullest and step into the lush pastures of the Shire, take your steeds out to McKinney, Texas and visit this charming Hobbit House.
Located roughly 30 minutes north of Dallas, the Hobbit House in McKinney is planted among a variety of restaurants, retailers, and the Allen outlets mall. Unlike its suburban neighbors, the Hobbit House offers an enchanting escape into a different time.
Made in painstaking detail, the Hobbit House features handmade, custom flourishes such as the round door and a round bed, as well as custom shelving, a decorated trellis entrance, a patio, and gorgeous landscaping.
Included in the details – and the page makes a clear warning to Gandalf – are the home’s small ceilings. While most of the ceiling height ranges around the 6-foot mark, in some spaces the slanted ceilings can sink down to as low as 5’6″.
Of course, this means that the space can feel a little snug for some. As such, the Airbnb only permits up to two guests for a stay, and no pets are permitted.
The cozy space also includes a king-sized bed, gorgeous wooded floors, and furniture, a stone-spotted bathroom complete with a Shire-like tub, as well as floral aspects throughout the home.
At the time of writing the Airbnb listing boasts a 4.95-star rating and costs $295 per night for a couple (all fees included).
